Propagating Australian Plants

By Alec M Blombery & Betty Maloney

$14.00

Interest in the cultivation and propagation of Australian plants is rising as many more Australian gardeners turn to our native plants in place of exotic species.

Alec Blombery and Betty Maloney have written this book in response to this interest, bringing their many years of experience with Australian plants to the task.

Chapters 1 to 4 are a simple introduction to the plant kingdom, while Chapters 5 to 9 deal with the various methods of propagation. Monotone paintings by Betty Maloney make it easier to understand what occurs during the various processes of propagation.

Standard propagation techniques can be used for most Australian plants, under the conditions normally found in gardens. In the main it is a matter of selecting the right technique for the particular plant. Special procedures must be followed for some plants, but then so they must for some exotics as well! Factors associated with different kinds of propagation are discussed, ranging from the optimum conditions required for successful seed collecting and germination to the special requirements of various native orchids, ferns and other plants.
