Prehistory – An Introduction

Prehistory is an introductory account of the main sequence of events in Old World Prehistory, from earliest times up to the expansion of the Roman Empire.

Europe is the main centre of interest and special reference is made to Britain, but this is in no sense merely an account of British Prehistory and the wider context is carefully considered.

There are chapters for each of the main divisions of prehistory – the Old Stone Age, the Middle Stone Age, the New Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age – and a concluding section

‘Prehistory: the modern approach’ which describes the recent impact on prehistoric archaeology of borrowed or adapted scientific techniques, explaining briefly how some of them work.
