Tunnel Vision

Her office building is falling down, the unpaid bills are mounting up. V.I. Warshawski, private investigator, needs a lucrative case and needs it fast. Instead she is required by her only reliable client to find a job for his graceless computer-hacking son – as a favour.

And against the advice of her friends, V.l. gets involved with a runaway family hiding in the basement of her crumbling office building.

Fortunately, she is given a case, although the pay is lousy. It should be a reasonable and straightforward investigation into the background of investors in a construction scheme. But when she is pulled off the case in a hurry with some unconvincing excuses, she can’t let it go and places herself in more danger than ever before.

And the police are on her tail. She discovers a body and not only is she the initial suspect, she is also concerned to protect two vulnerable women who become suspects in their turn.

Her two investigations become more murky and more dangerous. V.l. faces some of the toughest decisions in her career and must find even more strength and determination to persist to the end.

As the dramatic final resolution nears, she finds that the hardest questions she must answer are questions about herself.
