Of course, you can enjoy a work of art without having any real knowledge of it – by reacting spontaneously and instinctively to what you see. At the same time it is possible to know a great deal about a subject, and yet fail to get any real pleasure from it – any subject can become dry and dull if it is not enlivened by your own interest and curiosity. The greatest rewards come from a knowledge with extends, not stifles, curiosity and enjoyment.
