Traveller’s Tales: An Illustrated Journey Through Australia, Asia and Africa

By Anthony Jenkins

$15.00

Cartoonist Anthony Jenkins has spent several years on the road, travelling in 55 countries around the world. Along the way he has filled numerous sketchbooks with his drawings of the people he met.

This book contains a selection of drawings from two major trips – first on the Asian overland trail from Australia to Europe, and later through Africa from north to south. Some have already appeared in Lonely Planet travel guides.

This is a book of people, not places. A tattooed Iban tribesmen in Sarawak, a mango seller in Cameroon, fellow travellers in Nepal… all are drawn with perception and (in most cases) affection.

Equally perceptive are Jenkins’ written comments and descriptions of incidents during his travels. The combined result is like a series of personal illustrated letters.

This is a traveller’s travel book. If you have ever endured an Indian train, watched the world go by in Kathmandu’s Durbar Square or tried to post a letter in southern Africa, then opening these pages will be like meeting old friends and will probably give you itchy feet to be on the road once more
