GOLDEN JUBILEE
(The Story of a Fiftieth Birthday)

At 10 o’clock on July 15, 1912, a small bank opened its doors in Melbourne for the first time.
It was the first branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
In fifty years this small Bank has grown to be the biggest in Australia.
Known to-day as the Commonwealth Banking Corporation, it has over 7,700 offices throughout Australia and the Islands.
The Commonwealth Banking Corporation is really three Banks-the Commonwealth Savings Bank, Commonwealth Trading Bank and Commonwealth Development Bank.
On July 15, 1962, the Commonwealth Banks will celebrate their Golden Jubilee-their fiftieth birthday.
As 1962 is the Banks’ Jubilee year, this booklet is about GOLD and how it helped Australia grow.
We hope you will enjoy it.
