Malenga Nakale, idealistic and outspoken, has returned as a voluntary worker to Angola, her homeland.

But Malenga’s father is a prominent politician and, to his enemies, his young daughter is a prize worth fighting for. Kidnapped by a barbaric band of guerillas, Malenga begins a nightmare journey where the threat of death is never far away. Hamish, a South African deserter, is a captive too, and he and Malenga develop an unlikely friendship.
