Every year the shearwaters come to roost on big dog island. And every year Phoebe’s family come to hunt the birds. As the time comes for the shearwaters to migrate, Harry, Phoebe’s closest friend, leaves for the war fields. And nothing will ever be the same again.

‘Night Without Darkness’ is a true-to-life nature story set in Australia’s Flinders Island. It is a story of the relationship between a young girl and a baby sheerwater, and is about friendship, change, war and a way of life that is dying.
