From a Spanish Jail

Eva Forest was arrested, tortured and imprisoned without trial by the Spanish political police in September 1974.

The authorities alleged that she had been involved in the murder of Prime Minister Carrero Blanco and in a bomb explosion in a Madrid cafe, which occurred three days before her arrest. She faces a death-sentence if the Military Tribunal finds her guilty. While in solitary confinement at Yserias prison, her chief solace was a journal she wrote in the form of an extended letter to her children. Together with subsequent letters, her journal forms the basis of this volume.
