An Indian Attachment

Sarah Lloyd spent two years in India with a young Sikh, first in a remote Punjab village and then in the primitive community of a ‘holy man?’ When she first saw Jungli in the steaming heat of Calcutta she was captivated by his simplicity, his spontaneity, his unselfishness.

Two months later she felt compelled to find him. So began their strange, turbulent and ultimately doomed love affair. She an educated Westerner; he an unemancipated, non-English speaking enigma, fiercely, hopelessly in love with her, who drew her daily closer into the rhythms of his life – with its stark surroundings and harsh climate, its hardships and its simple pleasures – and finally realised they must part.
