A Bit of a Dag

A warm, light-hearted look at the funny side of life in a shearing gang. The author, JUDY HARRISON, has led a varied life which includes teaching, winning a beauty contest in Kaiaua (ever heard of it??) and working in a shearing gang.

Life with the gangs soon became second nature to her and she developed an intimate knowledge of their ways, sharing long hours on the board and the warmth of a shed full of sheep.

Most of all, she was at home with the people – the cooks, the fleecos, the contractors, the wives and the shearers themselves.

She writes: “Most of the people I worked with worked hard, played hard, and were a hell of a lot of fun!” Now we can share their fun – and DAVID HENSHAW’s brilliant cartoons add dimension to it.
