Bee Nilson was born and educated in New Zealand. She graduated a Bachelor of Home Science of Otago University, came to England in 1935 and settled in London. She has worked as cookery demonstrator, research worker, caterer, broadcaster, and journalist.

During the war she was with the Ministry of Food and compiled their A.B.C. of Cookery and other Stationery Office publications. She is a member of the New Zealand Dietetic Association and of the British Dietetic Association and is now lecturer in nutrition at the Northern Polytechnic, London.

She knows the difficulty of running both a home and a full-time job, and has specialised in collecting interesting recipes which are time and labour saving. Many have been discovered by her husband during his travels in Europe.
