This is the moving final testament to Donald Friend’s last years.

Including the initially happy, sybaritic times in Bali, there is also his return to Australia and with it a recognition of his physical decline summarised by his remark ‘Farewell to youth and to the nude. We part as good friends’. But his wit, his incisive inquisitive mind’s eye remains throughout. Despite a crippling stroke his urge to work never stops. ‘My soul is transparent heliotrope pink, but not nearly as invisible’- Friend is forever the artist, as a dog is a dog.
