The Ashes – Centenary Series – 1882-1982 – Official Pictorial Record

For 100 years England and Australia have played test matches, five separate matches played over five days, for the honour of winning a small wooden urn with ‘The Ashes’ enclosed; (no one is really sure what is actually in The Urn, but, the story goes that it is the ashes of the stumps of the last game when Australia won the series in England in the late 19th century, and it was the ‘death of English cricket as they knew it’).
