$9.00

Shot by Shot: A Practical Guide to Filmmaking is a clear, easy-to-read introductory text designed for the beginning filmmaker working in either the super-8 or 16mm format.

The book is divided into eight chapters, each of which deals with the basic language, processes and techniques of filmmaking: Camera and Lens; Film Stock; Composition; Continuity; Film Editing; Pre-production; Lighting; and Sound. It includes a comprehensive glossary of film terms and an index for quick reference.

Shot by Shot: A Practical Guide to Filmmaking was written by three members of the faculty at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, one of the oldest and largest media arts centres in the United States.

Susan Howard, Brady Lewis and John Cantine are all active independent filmmakers with experience that ranges from public television to commercial film production to low-budget art films. They wrote this book because they needed a text that would be useful to the beginning filmmakers in the classes they were teaching. The first edition of this textbook was adopted by more than seventy university filmmaking programs throughout North America.

This second edition has been expanded in every area and features new information on both super-8 and 16mm film production, more examples from recent films and more than 30 new photographs.
