CHARLES W. JACOBSEN, the author, has been selling Oriental Rugs in Syracuse, New York since 1924.

He is respected as a businessman and rug expert throughout the United States and Europe. Shortly after he entered the rug business, he realized that rug buyers, as well as many rug dealers, and in some cases collectors, were handicapped by a lack of information. A great deal of absolutely incorrect information had also been passed down through the years.

This led to Mr. Jacobsen’s first small volume entitled Facts about Oriental Rugs, first published in 1931. In 1952, Mr. Jacobsen published a new edition of the above title which has been reprinted several times.

Realising more than ever that a complete book on the subject was sorely needed, Mr. Jacobsen took the time from his busy schedule to write this, the first authoritative work on the subject in nearly five decades.
