Gudrun Beowulf and the Death of Roland and Other Medieval Tales

By John Gibb

The stories in this Volume are taken from Poems which are among the earliest remaining of the three greatest nations of Europe–the Germans, the English, and the French.

I have not translated them literally, but have told their stories faithfully in simple language, with the special design of interesting young people, although I am not without hope that they will be read by some who can no longer be called young. In the Concluding Chapter an account will be found of the History and Character of the Original Poems. — Prefatory Note.
