Clans of the Scottish Highlands

R. R. Mclan’s celebrated, but now extremely rare, two-volume work, The Clans of the Scottish Highlands, with text by James Logan, is here republished complete in one volume, and each clan covered in the original edition is represented by one of McIan’s remarkable colour plates.

First commissioned in 1845 by the Highland Society of London, the book was financed by private subscription. Journalist James Logan, at one time Secretary of the Society, wrote a short essay for each clan, covering its history, location, armorial bearings and dress.

This edition is supplemented by a foreword by Lady Antonia Fraser, a map showing the location of the clans, and a list of the family names derived from the clans themselves. In respect of content, the book is a complete and faithful reproduction of the original.
