Gabriel García Márquez was born in Colombia in 1928. He has worked as a reporter and was a foreign correspondent in Europe, Caracas and New York. He is the author of several novels and collections of stories, including the international bestseller One Hundred Years of Solitude. Many of his books are published in Penguin, and these stories are taken from Strange Pilgrims. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.
